A lawn is only as good as the ground beneath it. Lay sod over compacted clay, rocky fill, or poorly graded soil and you'll have brown patches by August and bare dirt by October. We build lawns from the soil up — stripping old turf, correcting grade and drainage, amending with quality topsoil, and laying BC-adapted sod with tight seams and rolled contact. The result is a lawn that roots deep, drains properly, and stays green through the Lower Mainland's wet winters and dry summers.
Old lawn removal — we strip existing turf, weeds, and organic debris down to bare soil. No laying new sod over dead grass and hoping for the best.
Grading for drainage — we slope soil away from your foundation at minimum 2% grade so water flows where it should, not into your basement.
Soil amendment with screened topsoil and compost blend — 3 to 4 inches of quality growing medium that gives roots something to grab onto.
Fresh sod laid same-day from the farm — tight seams, staggered joints, rolled for full soil contact. BC-adapted grass blends selected for your sun exposure and foot traffic.
Post-installation watering schedule and care instructions so you know exactly what to do for the first 6 weeks while your lawn establishes.
We source sod from Fraser Valley farms — delivered same-day and installed immediately so it never sits on a pallet drying out. For most Lower Mainland yards, we use a perennial ryegrass and Kentucky bluegrass blend that handles partial shade, moderate foot traffic, and BC's rainfall pattern. Full-sun properties get a higher ratio of Kentucky bluegrass for heat tolerance. Shaded yards get fine fescue blends that thrive under tree canopy. We use sod cutters for removal, mini skid steers for grading on larger properties, and hand-grade with landscape rakes on smaller yards where machines can't access.
The ideal window for sod installation in the Lower Mainland is mid-March through mid-June, and again from September through mid-October. Spring and early fall provide moderate temperatures and natural rainfall that help sod establish roots quickly. Summer installations work but require diligent watering during the first two weeks. We schedule around weather and soil conditions to give your lawn the best start.
Sod installation in the Lower Mainland typically costs $3 to $5 per square foot for a complete job — including old lawn removal, soil amendment, grading, fresh sod, and rolling. A standard 1,000-square-foot front-and-back yard runs $3,000 to $5,000. Costs increase if significant grading, drainage correction, or topsoil import is needed. We provide a detailed quote after assessing your yard.
New sod is walkable within 2 weeks and fully established with deep roots in 6 to 8 weeks. During the first 10 to 14 days, water twice daily for 15 to 20 minutes each session to keep the root zone moist. After that, transition to deeper, less frequent watering to encourage root depth. BC's natural rainfall helps significantly — most lawns installed in spring or fall need minimal supplemental watering after the first month.
We install sod in Vancouver, Surrey, Burnaby, New Westminster, Coquitlam, and across the Lower Mainland.
